The key thing here is to work our what options the client has selected to use from the fee proposal. The process is:
1. Ask for the artwork as layered Photoshop, not Illustrator.
1a. Make sure the artwork size corresponds to the website size. Do not use artwork that is the wrong size, ask for it to be redone.
2. Get the fee proposal.
3. Read it.
4. Look at the provided art work and work out what items have been selected from the fee proposal. Most fee proposals have a lot of options when they are submitted and your job is to find which options have actually been selected.
5. Sometimes there will be items in the artwork that are not even mentioned in the fee proposal. You need to highlight these and cost them. These items may require a specification to define them.
6. Send the fee proposal to the client highlighting in a yellow background the options you assume they have selected from the artwork.
7. Don't start work until the designer approves your email. It should read:
Subject: (Job name) fee proposal acceptance
Hi Matt,
We have received your artwork and are ready to begin coding. I have attached the fee proposal with items I assume you need built highlighted in red. Could you please confirm that these items are correct and the other items are not required?
By the way, I noticed that you have added a calendar to the site which was not in our initial proposal. This will cost $1000 + GST to build. Can you please confirm this is OK?
By the way, I noticed that you have added a calendar to the site which was not in our initial proposal. I have attached a specification which defines how it operates. Can you please confirm the specification? As specified, this will cost $1000 + GST to build but this price could chage if the specification requires adjustment. Can you please confirm this is OK?
Many thanks
Hardi
8. Confirm with the designer that the bottom of all page templates is as provided. Often designers accidentally cut off the bottom of the page and then we have to fix HTML which should have been complete after launch.
9. For each module, ensure the artwork shows every possible configuration of the content. For instance for paragraphs the artwork needs to show:
- Heading, text, image, image caption, download
- Followed by full width image
- Followed by heading text
Make sure the artwork shows at least two content items so representation in unambiguous.
10. Ensure menu items have a colour defined for:
- No active state
- Active state
- Rollover state
11. Ensure there is a colour for links.
